Washington AP reports the government may extend the Oct. 1 deadline for announcing the $3 a month doctor bill insurance premium under Medicare. Officials hope Congress finishes action on Medicare provisions in the Social Security bill, possibly delaying Gardner’s required rate announcement until after November. A drugs add-on proposal could raise premiums to 50 cents to $1, with the open enrollment period at risk if the extension is not granted.
Washington AP report says Pan Am clerks and workers walked out amid wage dispute and bargaining rights fight with the Teamsters. Federal orders were issued, with New York declaring the strike illegal and Honolulu ordering strikers back to work.
