Broken family tragedy in Norfolk alimony case
In Norfolk, William H. Schmitt a 41 year old vice consul and Standard Oil plant superintendent fatally wounded his separated wife and then killed himself after a court granted her a separation and 50 dollars monthly alimony. Mrs Schmitt was left in critical condition. He left a note for his five children asserting his lifelong support.

Robeson killers freed by governor

Four Die in Lightning Strike at Tobacco Barn Near Mount Airy
Four people were killed when a bolt of lightning struck a tobacco barn near Mount Airy. The victims were Tom McCreary 62, his son Ben 18, daughter Callie 13, and Harvey R. Butcher 20.
