Nationwide labor disputes rise since the end of wartime no-strike pledge. Over 200000 workers remain off jobs, with Detroit's heavy industries at center stage and unrest spreading across the north central region and into the east across multiple sectors.
An American unit at Narumi helps a Japanese prisoner work and shares meals, including a cherished bull saved from slaughter. Marines debate freeing the bull, raise funds, and see their camp economy grow as they plan a humane release and continued aid for the local civilians.
In Kansas City a C-47 transport crashed after takeoff from Fairfax airport, killing 23 aboard including 20 veterans. Only three survived, with one dying later in a hospital. Reports describe a hurricane affecting Nassau and surrounding islands with gusts near 100 mph. Mayaguana Long Key and surrounding districts suffer damage while Crooked Island and others report worsening conditions as the storm moves west toward Florida. A Honduran sailboat stock and six sailors reach lifeboat as fatalities are feared.
The Navy announced observances to honor the Navy's role in victory with many units, including battleship Missouri and other ships. Tentative port assignments include battleships and numerous destroyers and aircraft carriers awaiting final confirmation.
