Royal Couple Will Tour a Modern Canada in 1951
NEA special correspondent James Montagnes outlines Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s Octo ber North American tour. They will cover 10000 miles in five weeks, visiting Atlantic to Pacific coasts and Washington. The trip shows Canada’s shift from 1938 to 1951 with immigration growth, industrial expansion, new railroads, and expanded veterans hospitals. They will see cities, forests, mines, and the changing northern frontier, including Edmonton, Kapuskasing, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver Island, and the Maritime Provinces, ending with Newfoundland. They travel by ocean liner, trains, air, and naval ships, with stops at ranches, mills, and military bases.
