TVA board member Bill Jenkins told the Chattanooga TVA Retirees Assn. that coal prices charged to TVA will fall when Browns Ferry and other nuclear facilities start operating. He noted TVA uses about 40 million tons of coal annually, making coal cost half of electricity production, and explained higher coal costs raise TVA’s overall expenses. Jenkins blamed regulatory shifts and delays on environmentalists for slowing plant construction and raising costs, stressing fiscal management to keep power affordable.
