Five Days of Valor on Road to Hungnam
Lt. Col. Don C. Faith Jr. earned the Medal of Honor for a five day series of extreme gallantry during the Hungnam withdrawal in late 1950. He led a battalion through deep North Korean operations, held a defensive perimeter under repeated penetrations, directed a breakout through heavy fire, and died after heroically clearing a road block. Faith previously earned the Bronze Star, Croix de Guerre, Silver Star, and Purple Heart in World War II and Korea. His widow, Barbara W. Pyer, later received his Medal of Honor from General Omar Bradley.
