In Greensboro North Carolina the Woman's College opens its doors tomorrow for the fall semester. Eighty upperclassmen begin with a pre school student faculty conference Monday through Wednesday led by President Gordon Gray Chancellor Edward K. Graham and Dean Katherine Taylor. Freshman week starts at 9 15 a m next Friday with over 900 first year students and transfers meeting in Aycock Auditorium as classes commence on September 20.

A high speed chase on Greensboro Highway ended when Freddie Glaesner fleeing a State Highway Patrolman clipped a telephone pole at Five Points. Passenger Sylvia Moore, 17, and Jo Ann Lowe, 20, were hospitalized and Glaesner faced charges of drunken driving reckless driving and resisting arrest.

School Bond Issues Go On Auction Block

One Car Smashes Into 14 Others
Chicago police held 30 year old Joseph Woltanski after a chain collision at a busy west side intersection. He attempted to pass a car and crashed into two cars in opposite directions, then into five more vehicles crossing the intersection, drawing 14 other cars into the wreckage and sending his car into two additional autos. Officials described a multi-vehicle crash with Woltanski detained on complaints related to the unrelated drivers.

Durham officers charged Hobart M. Lee 33 of Burlington with murder in the bludgeon death of 71 year old Chapel Hill spinster Rachel Crook. Latta said three lab reports are pending including autopsy results, fingernail scrapings, and tests on Lee's 1949 green Ford pickup. Crook, a former school teacher, was found beaten on an abandoned road near Chapel Hill August 30.

Police Arrest Five Get 19 Gallons Liquor
Five Negro men were arrested in a liquor dragnet for prohibition violations. The largest haul was 11 gallons of white lightning from Fred D. Strickland of 833 Hoover Street who posted a $300 bond. Palm Beach Dixon, 52, of 05 Leonard Street, yielded 27 pints tax paid and posted $300 bond. Marshall Crawford, 37, of 111 Hoskins Street, had four gallons non tax paid whiskey. he had not yet posted $300 bond. Clay Matthews, 45, of 415 Hay Street, had ½ gallon non tax paid liquor and was released under a $100 bond. Officers Leverett, Harbin, Dawkins and Stallings led the raids. The tax paid liquor seized from Dixon was bought at Greensboro ABC stores with sales stamps dating Sept 7. The 16 gallons non tax paid liquor will be destroyed. the ABC liquor will go to the Sheriff’s Department for state disposal and school fund use in Guilford County. The retail value of the tax paid liquor was about $47.
