Sikes Renominated Despite Congress Censure
In Florida's Panhandle, Robert L. Sikes won the Democratic renomination by a 3 to 1 margin over John Benton Jr., staying atop his northwest Florida district despite a congressional reprimand over stock dealings. The long-time congressman, 70, seeks his 19th term as he faces no Republican opposition in November. The day also saw Arizona and Connecticut primaries, with George Udall and Dennis DeConcini advancing in Arizona and Geoffrey Peterson winning a Democratic bid in Connecticut.
