Rail rate hike threats alarm High Point furniture makers

The proposed cancellation and higher rates for carload furniture shipments anger High Point manufacturers. Rates from High Point to Richmond would rise from 84 to 1.04 dollars, 204 miles. Other routes to Philadelphia and Jamestown show similar increases. The Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association and NC shippers oppose the changes and vow to petition the Interstate Commerce Commission for hearings and justification.
