Enterprise Bureau Raleigh reports eastern North Carolina faces a record season as tobacco and cotton markets open. By January 1 at least 250 million dollars in farm income is expected from tobacco cotton and related crops. Tobacco alone may bring 120 million with 4 million pounds at about 39 cents. Cotton could rival tobacco with prices 25 to 60 cents and a harvest near 1 million bales. Total eastern farmer earnings could exceed 250 million dollars, barring early market dumping.
