Body of Petty Found in Danville Basement Murder Case

The body of Smith Petty of Reidsville North Carolina was found in a basement in Danville today. Mrs Alma Petty Gatlin is charged with murder and her husband Eugene Gatlin fire chief was taken into custody for questioning. An inquest is planned.

Man Ends Life With Pistol at South Hamilton Home

Julius L. Warren 33, manager of the Standard Oil filling station on South Main and Clay, shot himself in his bedroom at 316 South Hamilton Street yesterday afternoon. He fired a .32 pistol into his temple after asking his wife if she could do without him. Neighbors heard the shot and his wife’s cries. Warren died en route to Guilford General Hospital. Millikan, who saw him at the station, recalled his remark about not being there in the morning and his plan to kill himself. Funeral arrangements by Yow’s.

Train collision at Francisco mine kills three

Three people died and seven injured when westbound Southern railway train 2 crashed head on into a Big Four coal train at Francisco mine 2 after an open switch. Among the dead were Thomas Nelson and Leonard Wilson. One coal train engineer George Fluher was badly hurt and expected to die.
