Great Army Dirigible Lands After Stormy Inland Flight

Lieutenant W. A. Gray and crew of four landed the TC-5 airship safely at Scott Field Belleville Illinois after 36 hours aloft in electrical storms. The first inland trip since the Shenandoah disaster tested the non rigid blimp's mettle despite darkness and heavy rain. The ship covered about 1200 miles with 155 gallons of fuel remaining and a 400 gallon capacity.

Governor A W McLean has sent a telegram to agents in charge of Queen Marie of Romania’s U S tour urging her to visit North Carolina during her American journey. He states North Carolinians would be delighted by her visit and sends the friendly sentiments of the state.

Three Men Executed in Ohio Prison Tripple Death Row Event

John Bryant Richard Rhoades and John Hedrick were electrocuted at Ohio Penitentiary for the March killing of James McCumber near Pomeroy. It was the state’s first triple execution with 35 officials and reporters present. Bryant spoke Praise God as he entered the chair. Rhoades and Hedrick faced the chair in succession and died within 31 minutes.

Englishman Langley Eyed for Insanity After Strike

Ed Langley an English born man, arrested on insanity charges, undergoes a second examination by County Physician Grady Morgan after a burger strike kept him from a first check. He fought officers with an ice pick during arrest. Decision on where he will be sent if he is adjudged insane rests with the county physician.

70 Year-Old Tycoon Kills Himself After Slaying Woman

Lexington reporting that 70 year old businessman Kelly C. Kirtley killed Miss Mildred MacDaniel 26 of Brooklyn and then shot himself in a hotel bathroom. Alma Gregory, also from Brooklyn, slept nearby as the two women posed as cousins and Kirtley as their uncle. Alma said a quarrel over a diamond ring size preceded the events.

Wood Grows Bond After Re-Arrest in Guard Shooting Case

Raleigh and Charlotte report the death of James B. Vickers, a Mecklenburg county convict shot by prison guard Rev. George Wood during an attempted escape. Wood posted a $5,000 bond signed by prominent citizens and faces a murder charge in Wake Superior Court opening September 13. Vickers’ death followed a prior escape from Charlotte last week and recapture in Spartanburg.

Preliminary Hearing Delayed in Brown Embezzlement Case

The preliminary hearing for Frank R. Brown former secretary treasurer of the Perpetual Building and Loan association in Salisbury was continued to Wednesday September 15 before Judge Charles Coggin in Rowan County Court. Bond remains ten thousand dollars. Brown was in a car with his attorney when the continuance was ordered.

Two Die As Passenger Train Hits Freight at Foley

The Baltimore and Ohio passenger train No. 7 collided with a freight at Foley Pennsylvania. Engineers Wilkie W. Collins and R. E. Albright were killed. W. C. Reynolds flagman on the rear train was dying, Edith Winnie slight injuries. Passengers were moved to Cumberland while crews worked to clear wreckage.

Washington report shows automobile tires tubes and other rubber goods produced in 1925 valued at 925 million dollars up 43 percent from 1923. Tires and tubes dominated output while bicycle and motorcycle parts fell, with 77 million automobile tubes and 1.9 million solid tires among items produced.

Trio Charged With Murder of Mellett in Canton

Stark county grand jury indicts Ben Rudner Louis Mazer and Patrick McDermott for first degree murder of Don Mellott Canton publisher shot July 16. Rudner held Massillon hardware dealer Mazer in Cuyahoga jail on conspiracy charge. McDermott at large believed key man. Trial expected late October with possible separate trials.

Hottest Weather Since August 13 Hits High Point

High Point endured the region's hottest sun in weeks with yesterday's high reaching 97 degrees, 1 degree shy of the August 13 peak of 98. The minimum dropped to 66, while July and August averaged 91. Forecasters from Raleigh predict light showers and a temperature fall with southeast winds.

Lawrence Berenson was appointed receiver in equity for G. L. Miller & Co. a major real estate and mortgage bond house in New York. The firm serves about 21 000 customers and holds 159 loans totaling roughly 50 million dollars. The company faced scrutiny from the New York attorney general and had its Pennsylvania license revoked by the bureau of securities in Harrisburg.

Wrightsville Beach Inn and Four Cottages Burned In Night Fire

Fire at Wrightsville Beach destroyed the Palmetto Inn and four summer cottages last night. Damage estimated at $20,000 by owners. Fifteen guests and residents escaped with only a few articles saved as flames swept the buildings. Firemen fought the blaze to prevent spread to nearby structures.

Youthful Gunmen Terrorize Gary Streets In Liquor Fueled Shootout

Two young gunmen roamed Gary Indiana last night terrorizing the business district. They killed a man and wounded a patrolman before one was killed and the other captured. Harry Bolds of Youngstown was the slain gunman. Rudolph Gustafson of Halstead Minnesota was captured. Police pursued them after they robbed a billiard hall and a hotel, then fled in a taxicab and on foot.

Motorman questioned after deadly Detroit line collision

William Owen of Toledo faced officials of the Detroit Union Railroad Co as investigators probed why he did not wait on a siding for a southbound passenger train. The crash near Monroe killed eight and injured more than 25 as two heavy cars collided at 46 mph on a curve.

Officials of the Henry K. Burtner Post American Legion announce the final Greensboro High Point baseball game will be played next Friday September 10 on the Greensboro grounds under Legion auspices. Three Men Jailed in Slaying of Jess Masters in Carolina Woods

In Brevard North Carolina three men are jailed on related charges as detectives probe the stabbing death of 40 year old Jess Masters of Bosnian. Masters body was found in a forest after 18 days missing with reports he was decapitated and throat cut. An inquest is set for Saturday at the courthouse.
