Opposed Move to Increase Aid for Private Colleges

Chapel Hill AP reports UNC board committees draft a resolution opposing a plan by the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities to raise state aid for private higher education from about 9 million to 32.8 million over 1975 77. The panel favors maintaining current aid of 200 per student and rejects direct tuition grants of 400 in 1975 76 and 600 in 1976 77 as inefficient. The Board of Governors also seeks 836.7 million from the General Assembly for 1975 77, with continued programs and modest faculty salary rises.
