Berlin dispatch reports authorities routed several thousand Polish Jews from their beds in dawn raids. Germany seeks to enforce a Polish law forcing passport revalidation by Oct 30, risking loss of Polish citizenship for those without revalidation.
Funeral services are planned for Judge Lewis E Teague Democratic nominee for the sixth congressional district who died yesterday afternoon after a brief paralysis. The service will be held at 10 30 AM Saturday at the First Methodist Protestant church with Rev J Clay Madison officiating. Interment follows in Oakwood Cemetery with active pallbearers named and space in the church balcony for colored attendees.
In Los Gatos Calif on Oct 28 Yehudi Menuhin, 21, American violin virtuoso, faces losing a $3,000 engagement with the Los Angeles Philharmonic if he declines to join the American Guild of Musical Artists at a $70 fee. He calls his action a defense of artistic freedom.

Japanese troops seize Sienning fifty miles south of Hankow and press toward Yochow along the Hankow Canton railway. The operation follows the Hankow conquest as troops cut a swampy retreat area and claim many Chinese forces are trapped.
Chapel Hill October 28. UNC athletics director Py-R. A. Fetzer warns football fans not to attend the Duke at North Carolina game without tickets. He says no booths will be open and no tickets sold. A sellout was announced two days earlier.
Claude Bowser Jr., 22, of Halifax county, died by gas at the State Prison for the February 22 murder of Lizzie Bowser. He claimed amnesia due to drink, prayed briefly, and was pronounced dead after 11 minutes of exposure. Sheriff and deputy observed. relatives claimed the body.
