Thurmond Flags Money Tied to Brown Campaign
In Laurens, write in candidate Strom Thurmond accused outside committees and the State Democratic Executive Committee of spending 15 000 to 20 000 dollars to aid State Sen Edgar A Brown. He cited support from the National and Democratic Senatorial Elections committees and criticized Brown ally Bennett Neville Bennett as steering party funds. Brown supporter Roy R Pearce defended the nomination method as democratic while Thurmond claimed Brown abandoned the national party in 1948 to back him against Truman.
