Raleigh AP The General Assembly reconvened to reorganize the state university system with Gov. Bob Scott urging removal of higher education from politics. Competing plans include a consolidated UNC system absorbing six campuses and a 32 member board of governors, or a 44 member board of regents, plus delays and other restructuring proposals. The session also faces a water sewer bond bill carried over from the regular session due to a technical miscue.

Governor backs education bill restructuring NC higher ed

Gov. Bob Scott urged support for a committee approved plan to create a 32 member board governing all state universities. He said it unifies budgeting and reduces political influence, while not being a regional or consolidated university bill. He also argued it preserves key university leadership aims.
