Catholics Win Largest Bloc in South Vietnam Elections
In Saigon the Roman Catholic community, a staunch anti communist group of about 2 million, won the largest bloc of seats in the House of Representatives, reflecting strong backing as the Senate also shows Catholic influence. They are part of a split political landscape with Buddhists and other factions, while Thieu’s support remains unpredictable. The Hoa Hao and Cao Dai sects gained a share, and the government holds power as both houses align with various regional and religious interests.
