Widening of English Street Moves Ahead Underway
Work on widening English street progresses rapidly with contract time set at sixty days. Crews clear right of way, remove trees, relocate poles and extend utilities while moving store fronts back from the street. curb and gutter work continues from Phillips Street eastward, with grading near completion and new surface paving soon. The city plans resurfacing between Phillips and West Point avenues to align with existing tracks, providing a straight run to the highway. Local labor via the National Reemployment service is employed on the project. Negotiations with property owners for east end acquisitions remain ongoing, with hope for resolution in days.

Engineers Seek To License Knox For Association
Complaint filed against City Manager E M Knox alleges noncompliance with a 1921 state statute requiring municipal engineering leaders to be registered engineers and pay a fee. Knox argued he is responsible for local engineering, not personally registered, and the issue will be corrected. Public utilities committee recommended CCC camps pay 60 dollars monthly for water, replacing the prior 20 cents per 100 cubic feet. An appropriation of 1750 dollars funds widening English street between Phillips and West Point avenues with track removal and covering of the street car tracks westward from Pine Street.
