Vienna dispatch reports General Alexander Dimitriyevitch, dismissed as chief marshal for alleged failure to protect King Alexander, attempted suicide after his removal. The official news agency quotes no further details.
Charles Arthur Floyd known as Pretty Boy Floyd was killed in Ohio after a dramatic confrontation with federal agents and East Liverpool police. Floyd sought shelter at a farm, met wary residents, fled to a corn crib, and was shot after officers approached. His death ends a decade of crime and triggers private family responses and funeral plans.
Washington reports Leo Crowley of the FDIC said the Roosevelt administration will aid business not run it. Francis Marion Law urged cautious recovery with fair profits and emphasized restoring foreign trade and utilizing bank credit. He noted banks cooperate with government and business despite idle funds and low loan demand.
President Roosevelt drafts tentative itinerary for November. He will inspect the Tennessee Valley on November 15 then proceed to Harrodsburg Kentucky on November 16 to dedicate a Daniel Boone and Kentucky pioneers memorial.

Bruno Hauptmann pleads not guilty to a first degree murder indictment in New Jersey. Justice Thomas W. Trenchard will set a trial date after the arraignment at 11 a.m. EST. Hauptmann, in good physical condition though 30 pounds lighter, awaits brief visits from his wife and has asked to see his infant son. The prosecution's case is complete, according to Attorney General David T. Wilentz.
Four newborns died at Lincoln hospital after only hours of life. Two boys died at 7 AM and another boy and a girl died earlier, less than three hours after birth. Mother Cecilia Mulligan, 25, of the Bronx, had been recovering from previous children.

In a published statement Satterfield and Donald Sasser recount plotting to kill Grice after alleged mistreatment of Mrs. Grice. Mrs. Grice knew of the plan and asked for action. Satterfield adds he loved Mrs. Grice and believes she deserves better, while a prior statement claimed Sasser had shot Grice.
Allen B. Wilson a 32 year old newspaper route carrier for The Washington Herald was mortally wounded by two gunmen in Takoma Park Maryland who mistook him for gambler Mickey McDonald. Wilson died later at Washington Hospital. Police say McDonald feared for his life and the ambush followed a prior threat against him. The attackers fled in a second car unseen by authorities.
Greensboro October 23 Special Irvin Davis a High Point man indicted for hire and run in an accident was remanded to the High Point court for arraignment on the hit and run charge in Superior court this afternoon The offense was held a misdemeanor within the High Point court jurisdiction.
