Randleman Mayor backs one cent sales tax plan
RANDLEMAN Aldermen discussed a proposed one cent sales tax, a civic pride committee, and a recreation and parks group. Mayor Walter I urged tax cuts and new funding to meet rising service demands while noting the sales tax as a straightforward revenue source. City Hall hours were shortened to 5 pm weekdays and two new committees were approved to oversee recreation funds and beautification efforts.

The North Carolina Automobile Dealers Assn will hold its thirteenth annual conference Friday November 14 at the Sir Walter Hotel Raleigh. Franchised dealers from across the state are expected for a one day workshop. Speakers include Curtis Phillips Howard Hed dinger John Hinckley Ray Walker Hix H. Green Jr and Julian E Parker. Luncheon speaker will be Lyman W Slack. The association will honor area chairmen at a banquet with speaker Bob Murphy.

Burlington Industries reports 1969 fiscal year sales of 1.765 billion dollars up from 1.619 billion, with earnings of 78.1 million dollars or 3.01 per share, down from 78.95 million or 3.12. For the final quarter, sales were 433.7 million and earnings 17.97 million or 0.69 per share, versus last year's 15.69 million or 0.78. The board declared a 35 cent quarterly dividend payable December 1 to shareholders of record October 31.

Pancoast to Lead Directors as 1969 Term Opens
Pancoast was named to a one year unexpired term as director at large along with Dave Neill L B Haizlip Dr Otis E H Tillman and Irving R Black. The October board meeting at the Chamber of Commerce Building approved the lineup. Payroast urged a productive year and stressed teamwork. He is a Wilmington Delaware native and University of Delaware graduate who moved to High Point in 1938. He held key posts at Bryant Electric Co and directed electrical work at Oak Ridge for the atomic bomb project. He has long served in church Rotary United Appeal and Salvation Army roles and earned the 1969 electrical man of the year award.
