New York Cotton Opens Lower as Southern Selling Persists
New York cotton prices opened with an 11 to 18 point decline amid heavy selling. Demand from trade buyers absorbed much of the offerings, with December slipping to 1946 and March to 1971 before recovering to 1975 and 1997 respectively by mid-session, about 35 points from the session low and 12 points above yesterdays closing values. A favorable weather map aided sentiment as buying from trade accounts helped stabilize the market.
