Printing of unofficial ballots sparks probe in Cabarrus County
AP reports State Elections Board director Alex Brock calls the unauthorized printing of unofficial primary election sample ballots in Cabarrus County an unintentional trespass. The State Bureau of Investigation investigated sources including Cannon Mills printing shop and candidate Betty Dorton Thomas. Chairman H. B Williams Jr. said the probe found two unauthorized printings, with Thomas ordering 1200 ballots for the August 17 Democratic primary, and Cannon Mills printing about 16500 samples. Brock noted such printing would be legitimate if proper authorization was obtained, and he and Williams both supported using sample ballots for public information when approved.
