Serbian troops on the Macedonian front drive toward Monastir and breach the Bulgarians second line, taking Brod and Velyezele and advancing toward Velezélo. Paris reports Bulgarian losses with 160 prisoners and three cannon. Greece remains turbulent with venizelist tensions and shifting Allied messages in Athens.
President Wilson and William Jennings Bryan met in Pittsburgh en route from Chicago to Long Branch. A man named Richard Cullen, 22, carrying a knife and liquid, jumped onto the president's car and was arrested. Bryan spoke in Johnstown while Wilson continued his campaign tour.
Dispatches from Athens report extreme weather and civil disorder as Greek reservists seized control in the evening. A strong entente detachment of marines stood by with little aid to restore order.
Chief of Police Gray received a Reading Pa telegram reporting the arrest of Clay Moore, son of Alphonso Moore, with Mrs J R Reitzel's stolen automobile and several articles identified as from Silver's store, taken weeks earlier.
In Richmond Virginia the ambulance from Virginia hospital with Dr Green responded to 18 East Clay Street to treat Mrs Satterfield who said she took a teaspoonful of bichloride of mercury by mistake. She was moved to the hospital and her condition later reported satisfactory.
Milledgeville Ga Oct 26 Trustees of the state hospital for the insane announced after a meeting that rising feeding costs will force the hospital to return non dangerous inmates to the care of friends or relatives or to their county of origin.
Washington on October 20 authorized the purchase of aircraft for two aero corps squadrons at eighty dollars per machine, to be delivered in San Antonio Texas. Each squadron will have twelve machines, increasing the flying strength while 1300 men were called for enlistment.
William A. Watt aged 34 former general superintendent of the Norfolk Southern Railway dies at his Richmond home. Watt previously held key positions with Seaboard Air Line Atlantic Coast Line and Norfolk and Western railways.
At the first general meeting of the Farmers' National congress women’s section in Indianapolis on October 20, action on adopting the constitution and by laws was postponed to next year. A committee was appointed to handle the matter, chaired by Mrs B G Kalb of Houston Texas.
Elephant Butte dam in New Mexico was dedicated with A A Jones acting as personal representative of President Wilson. The structure cost five million dollars and aims to create the world’s largest artificially retained body of water.

Commonwealth Hosiery Mill to begin manufacturing in High Point with $30,000 capital, starting by January. The plant will employ about 100 machines producing medium priced ladies hose and men's half hose, with bleaching and finishing facilities and modern equipment. Stockholders include H A White A M Biggs E A Semen Morgan W P Pickett and J A Petty.
London October 20 The American Telegraph dispatch cites Bremen reports that the German Ocean Navigation company has received no news from the submarine Bremen and regards her as lost. Families of the crew in Bremen fear for their fate and expect difficulties in another trans Atlantic voyage. The Deutschland sailing on a further voyage has been canceled.
Greensboro, Oct 20. A Greensboro fireman was injured when a department truck struck a curb on Union Street while en route to a small blaze and toppled to the ground with force. The fireman’s name was not learned.
The New York board of aldermen approved a plan to save about $700,000 annually by creating a desertion bureau. Its duties include locating delinquent parents and compelling them to support their deserted children.
Berlin from Sayville reports the Austro German advance on Transylvania continues as Rumanians resist along the frontier. Nearby in the Black Sea border area Russo Romanian forces clash more intensely with central powers troops.

Revival services at East End Methodist church attract Christian and non Christian attendees. Rev. George Williams of Walnut Cove delivered a plea for repentance and four people responded to give their hearts to God with others seeking prayer. Services continue tonight at 7 30.
Raleigh report states an amendment to the Sentinel Publishing company charter increases capital stock to 725 000, divided into 1 250 shares with a par value of 100. The filing occurred today at the secretary of state's office.
Fire at Wesley Memorial church was halted around 2 o clock when Robert Sheloff of the Sheloff Hardware company arrived and found the building filled with smoke. The blaze was in the choir loft damaging drapery and organ music. The origin remains unclear with possible spark from decorations yesterday.
Amsterdam reports the Telegraaf calls for an immediate end to submarine warfare and urges the United States to take the initiative. The paper says ten days have passed since attacks began near American shores and warns Germany must be told that such mistakes will not be tolerated.
