Secretary of State Dulles returned from the Big Three foreign ministers conference in London and said the exchange of views was very satisfactory and should yield results toward peace and security. He planned to report to President Eisenhower first thing tomorrow.
19 year old University of South Carolina student Haynie Murdock is in the State Hospital at Columbia for observation after allegedly killing his mother Rebate Murdock 45 with a lug wrench Saturday. Father Durwood Murdock 47 says he was struck in the back of the head when he found the body in the dining room. Authorities seek motive as investigation continues.
Wake County Superior Court docket in Raleigh may affect recorder court costs statewide. Judge W S Rowland and Clerk W O Council of Fuquayarina Recorder’s Court faced action after Rowland reduced costs from $16.25 to $13 by removing a $2 arrest fee a 50 cent witness fee and a 15 cent clerk’s fee. Nearby North Wilkesboro recounts death of Jimmy the Greek Jimmy Pepris aged 5 who survived 15 hours in a mountain snowstorm before dying of a heart attack after car trouble on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The North Carolina Medical Foundation reported four years of support to the UNC Medical School totaling 177303 in cash and 466618 in pledges payable over ten years. It granted 82329 to the school and re elected Maj L P McLendon of Greensboro as president since 1949.
The State Board of Agriculture planned a Raleigh session to study a proposal placing controls on anhydrous ammonia and other liquid fertilizers sold in the state. In Panmunjom the two Communist delegations stormed out of a Korean repatriation commission meeting as Indian, Swedish, Swiss and Indian members aligned against them. The Associated Press reports at least 14 people died by violence in North Carolina over the weekend. Thurmond Neil Caudle, 17, was killed in a highway crash near Winston-Salem when two cars carrying teens collided at an intersection. Francine Philbeck, 18 months, died after a car backing over her as she ran behind it. Thelma Parker, 25, was shot dead in Winston-Salem, and Willie Parker Dichelburger, 44, is charged with her murder.
Col George W. Gillette, executive director of the State Ports Authority, says he is willing to resign at year end amid internal controversy as the SPA plans to meet to decide his fate. He notes progress on North Carolina port development and cites strong cargo and ship figures in the first year. A. G. A 23 year old Georgia Tech student Jack M. Wilson was rescued after spending two hours on a granite ledge high on Stone Mountain. Veteran climber Elias Nour lowered Wilson by rope from a position 400 feet down the face. Wilsons bride Alice fainted but recovered as the rescue was completed. Nour noted Wilson was among the deeper rescues he has performed.
Communist leaders signaled at Panmunjom to decide which nations join the United Nations peace conference. The Reds pressed for India, Indonesia, Burma, Pakistan, and Russia as neutrals, while Allies urged talks on timing and venue only.
Acting Lt. Gov. Arthur H. Wicks defended his Sing Sing talks with labor extortionist Joey Fay on radio and TV, saying the visits aimed to keep labor peace and avoid strikes. He compared his efforts to diplomacy with Premier Stalin or Marshal Tito, while Dewey pressed for his resignation amid political fallout.

Newton residents were startled Friday night when police traced a bank scare to a janitor’s broken phone line. Officers, armed with flashlights, checked the Northwestern Bank after a nightshift operator saw the line busy. A bank official confirmed the incident likely stemmed from the janitor, amid heightened caution after Maiden branch robbery.
