Changes Made In State Labor Laws Have Had Minor Effect Upon Employment Practices
North Carolina labor law changes under wartime powers have caused limited shifts in employment practices. The labor commissioner cites small permit use for under 18 workers, brief extensions for shifts up to 10 p.m., occasional 48 hour weeks for women in emergencies, and modest use of 14 and 15 year olds with late hours mainly in mercantile and service sectors. News delivery by girls remains largely avoided by publishers.
