Marines Battle Outlaws In Nicaragua Runoff Fight
A 40 man Marine Constabulary patrol engaged 300 irregulars near Quilali in Nueva Segovia. Sixty seven irregulars were killed or wounded and four constables died. The unit sought two missing Marine aviators, Lt E A Thomas and Sgt Frank Dowdell, seen near their wrecked plane. Private Jacon Treen led a small force through brush, killing four bandits, as the patrol withdrew, losing horses, mules, rations, blankets and a compass. Lt O Shea and Lt ONeil reported fierce combat. Private Kenneth Struck saved O Shea by felling a bandit at close range. The operation follows Sandino guerrilla activity and a July ambush of Marines and Constabulary near Ocotal.

Four sailors rescued after barge wreck off Ocean City
