North Carolina prison expansion seeks funding to ease overcrowding
Raleigh Corrections Secretary David L. Jones urged the Advisory Budget Commission to approve a 1975 76 expansion budget of 51.7 million and 1976 77 of 47.5 million to add 10 new prisons housing over 3 000 inmates upgrade Central Prison and boost security and services at existing facilities. The plan predicts 17 369 inmates by 1983 with 17 298 expected, citing overcrowding 11 561 inmates in 10 164 capacity and deeming conditions dangerous and explosive. The request covers renovations at Central Prison about 7 million initial funds master plan 20 million total and new 460 man units in Mecklenburg Winston Salem and central south central areas plus 200 man units in Pitt and Sampson counties and other sites.

B24 Crew Found After 30 Years Burying WWII Bombers
The Army will bury ten World War II bomber crewmen in Arlington National Cemetery more than 30 years after their disappearance over New Guinea. Chaplains from Protestant Catholic and Jewish faiths will lead a joint service with military honors.
