Fear, murder haunt New York 47th Street diamond district
In New York’s 47th Street diamond corridor, fear reigns after two traders were killed and a third missing. The Syndicate controls much of the trade, with DeBeers holding a major stake, and about $3 million in gems reported stolen. Brokers, many Hasidic Jews, fear outsiders and thefts amid tight security and secretive corridors.
