In Mogadishu a Lufthansa Boeing 737 carrying 86 hostsages was hijacked after taking off from South Yemen. Hijackers killed the pilot Juergen Schumann and demanded 15 million dollars plus release of 13 terrorists in West Germany and Turkey. Negotiations continued as authorities sought to save the remaining passengers and refuel the jet.
