Baker, host of You Asked For It, says women submit more gruesome requests than men for his seven year show. He notes women favor sword swallowers, snakes, and slaughter house scenes while men request sports acts and bathing beauties. He recalls a cobra kiss stunt and a pingpong playing cat as memorable highlights.
In Havana Cuban newspapers urge lifting of press censorship though leaders offer no immediate action. The Inter-American Press Assn. was told censorship is needed due to security concerns and would be removed when in the national interest. The suspension of constitutional guarantees could end or be extended for 45 days.
Mrs A W Flynn Greensboro executive secretary Guilford County unit of the American Cancer Society spoke at the Y's Menettes meeting at the YMCA. She outlined the group's functions and benefits for cancer patients and a self examination film was shown. The 25 attendees included Mrs Hawks Allen McDonald and Fields. Door prize winner was Mrs Betty McDowell.
A weekly schedule lists girls swimming classes, beginner to intermediate, church and club dinners, Bible and bridge classes, Y Teens activities, and a Little Theater Play. Activities run Wednesday through Saturday with times from 10 am to 9:30 am.
Dr. Max P. Rogers returns Saturday after attending the American College of Surgeons meeting in Atlantic City this week. Major Minton undergoes emergency surgery at High Point Memorial Hospital. right eye removed due to flying steel particles and is improving. Mrs. F. R. Allman returns home after surgery at the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Ring depart for a 15 day California vacation, visiting Ott Ring in Modesto. Mrs. J. L. Welborn plans to return home tomorrow after a stroke. Mrs. James S. Saunders returns from the funeral of her mother in Columbia, S C.
Various clubs host meetings and social events across High Point from Tuesday to Friday. Highlights include garden clubs, bridge and canasta socials, sorority gatherings, a bridal shower, and a Variety show rehearsal with dinners and hostesses listed at multiple local addresses.
The Private Duty Nurses Club will hold its monthly meeting Thursday evening at 7:30 at the home of Mrs. Martha Furr on Boulevard. Hostesses will be Mesdames Margie Durham Hutchens and Wilma Farmier.
The Jamestown Garden Club will meet at the Jamestown Methodist Church recreation hall tomorrow after noon. The program on horticulture is set for 3 15 in the afternoon.
