Burlington North Carolina October 13 Robah Noble a patching welder was hospitalized after an explosion in an empty gasoline tank. Noble and R H Fitch were welding a hole when Fitch used an electric torch. The blast drove Noble several feet, set his clothing afire and left him with a scalp wound shock and chest burns.

New York Oct 15 Eugene G Grace president of Bethlehem Steel Corp announced the merger contract between Bethlehem and Youngstown Sheets Tube Co has been cancelled due to changed conditions. Bethlehem exercised its option to cancel the contract which had been extended by mutual agreement since March 1930. Dissenting interests led by Cyrus Eaton obtained an injunction in Youngstown over stockholder information disputes.
Three announced democratic gubernatorial candidates will attend the Wayne county fair October 27 through 30. J. C. Ehringhaus of Elizabeth City is set for October 27, A. J. Maxwell of Raleigh for October 29, and Lt. Governor R. T. Fountain of Rocky Mount may appear October 28. No formal addresses are scheduled.
