Supreme Court Grants New Trial In Elopement Case
The North Carolina Supreme Court granted a new trial to Vernon R. Temple of Johnston County who was sentenced to 7 to 10 years for eloping with Mrs Estelle Dunn wife of Freddy Dunn. The court held the judge erred in instructing the jury and that virtue at the time could satisfy the statute. Temple earlier aided by liquor and intrusion into the Dunn home. The case recalls that Dunn died during the period, officially from natural causes. The decision also covered a Bertie County search warrant ruling and Ned Moore’s liquor possession conviction after police searched for stolen goods.
