Hungarian troops seized Spotysag 50 miles north of Budapest at 1 20 pm as part of Hungary s drive to regain lost lands. About 4000 residents welcomed troops amid national holiday celebrations and bands playing fiery music.
A railroad labor witness labeled a 15 percent wage reduction as driven by a small inner group of so called investment bankers led by J. P. Morgan & Co. W. Jett Lauck urged President Roosevelt's emergency fact finding board to examine railroads financial history before deciding on the wage cut amid a protest strike vote by one million workers.
The Czechoslovak legation said Eduard Benes informed it he had not accepted and had not considered an invitation to stand as the Scottish Nationalist candidate for rector of Glasgow University.

Mary Coyle a 17 year old high school graduate was reported missing and found slain in the back yard of a Palmer Avenue building. Police surgeon Dr. G C Lyons said she had been criminally assaulted. Detective Charles Donaldson noted she lived with her mother on a house boat on the Long Island Sound. Her father, a stone cutter, had disappeared about a year ago. A theater and several shops are in the Palmer Avenue building.
The North Carolina Supreme Court ruling curbed High Point’s municipal power ambitions and is viewed as a hurdle to Chief Justice Walter P. Stacy’s potential U S Supreme Court elevation. The decision centers on power matters and political alignment with New Deal views, affecting Stacy’s nomination prospects.
London dated Oct. 11 reports Lady Astor denying a Soviet claim that Col. Charles A. Lindbergh criticized the Soviet air force at a dinner at her home. She calling The Daily Worker responsible and says Lindbergh has not dined with her since Russia trip, calling the report a complete lie.
Elinore Troy, 22, a former Hollywood actress, clubs Jack Doyle with a punch after catching him with Miychi Taka in a Midnight Sun club. She says Doyle had broken their two day engagement. Doyle’s nose was struck, he reeled, Troy claims she acted out of presumed betrayal.
Eduard Benes former president of Czechoslovakia agreed to be Scottish Nationalist candidate for rector of Glasgow University in the October 22 election. He resigned last Wednesday amid Hitler’s enmity and retired to his summer home near Prague.

Four bombs were thrown at a convoy in Jerusalem aimed at Edward Keith-Roach the 53 year old British district commissioner. Despite two explosions none of the four cars was hit and Keith-Roach was protected by a military escort.
An airplane crashed near Florence D C yesterday injuring pilot Leon Yarborough of Timmonaville and passenger Marion Weatherby. The plane was demolished. Yarborough, a tobacco grower, had just returned from North Carolina. He entered a forced landing in a slide slip near the Pee Dee river.
AP reports John L. Lewis proposes resigning as chairman of the C I O if William Green quits as president of the A F of L to seek a bilateral peace between the two unions. He says the Houston convention’s demand is not unilateral and suggests both leaders depart to allow a peace pact.
Vienna authorities closed traffic around Cardinal Innitzer’s palace to prevent rioting after a sermon accusing the church of theft. Police feared youth groups would again protest and stoned the cardinal’s residence as officials expressed regret over the mob action.
In Fort Bragg area eastern North Carolina civilians volunteers including 500 women test spotting hostile aircraft at high altitudes as part of anti aircraft warning net exercises. One man died after collapsing while fighting a fire near International Falls. four others were unaccounted for as homes were burned and residents fled under dry peat bog and timber conditions.
