Powell Assails Edmisten as SBI Morale Slumps
Former North Carolina official Ed Powell says Attorney General Rufus Edmisten politicized the SBI, lowering morale and directing investigations toward friends while sidelining critics. Powell, a DMV commissioner, criticizes credit-taking, proposes returning SBI control to its director, swearing officers for all investigators, and a civil service system to depoliticize hires. Powell campaigns amid calls for accountability and highlights Morgan’s contrast with Edmisten. He spoke at a High Point Rotary Club event.
