New Haw River underpass work starts on Route 10
Work began on a fifty fifty underpass project at Haw River on Route 10, a joint effort of the Southern Railway and the state highway commission. Pilings were driven yesterday and the target completion is sixty days. The project aims to remove dangerous right angle curves and improve the Graham to Mebane road.

Two Injured In Auto Crash On Montlieu Avenue
Two men sustained injuries in an afternoon collision on Montlieu Avenue near Five Points. T. B. Reid of Cedar Street Greensboro suffered a split chin and cut hand, while M. B. Hoover of Randolph County had a cut lip. Reid drove a Ford roadster. D. W. Thornburg of Randolph County drove a Dodge roadster carrying Hoover. Two Jailbreak Suspects Escape From County Jail
Lonnie Griffin aged 20 and Charlie Doxie 17, both described as negroes, fled the county jail in Elizabeth City after luring the temporary jailor J Ballance into a cell corridor. One restrained Ballance while the other struck him, then the pair took the jail keys and escaped, placing the key in the outside lock. They were to face trial in the November term.
