J Elwood Cox returned to High Point after attending the 42nd annual American Bankers Association session in Kansas City September 25 30 He was named vice president of the national bank section and is expected to become president next year The convention drew about 800 bankers the largest in the ABA's history Kansas City speakers included J K Lynch Vanderlip and Warburg P W Gobel of Kansas City was elected ABA president for the following year The trip included visits to Indiana and Richmond where Cox witnessed large political gatherings with notable oratory.
Farmers across New York State tighten milk supply prompting shortages feared in New York City. Deputies sworn in Dutchess County to stop raids as masked farmers patrol roads seizing and damping milk. Officials estimate city shipments at roughly 25 to 60 percent of normal while hospitals report no shortage yet.
Building activity for September shows total permits of 16 349 50 with several residences and factory additions. The funeral service for Mrs. Mary Jones who died Saturday at her home on English street was held at Pleasant Garden this afternoon. She died from internal cancer after a long illness. She is survived by her husband two daughters and a son. Her son is a machinist on the battleship Vermont which arrived in Hampton Roads yesterday and came to High Point for the funeral. Mrs Jones was about 50 years old and well regarded. Rev. R C Stubbins conducted the service at Pleasant Garden at 2 30 this afternoon.
Russian 1915 population statistics show a total of 182,182,600, an increase of more than 53,000,000 since 1897 and over 3,800,000 since 1914, reflecting a 42 percent rise overall and a 2 percent rise in the year 1914.
A new High Point venture named Piedmont Filler and Stain Company forms with incorporators J. Lawrence White Homer Wheeler and O C Durland. White to serve as secretary and general manager and the plant to operate in the former Southern Wood Finishing site. Authorized capital stock is 100000 with 6000 paid in. The firm plans fillers stains putty and varnishes for nearby furniture factories within a 50 mile radius.
Tokio reports confirm Premier Count Okuma and his cabinet have decided to resign. He suggested recommending Count Kato as his successor and stepping aside for a leader with stronger national policies toward China. Sidney E. Allen of Thomasville and J. H. Mason travel representative of the Charlotte Observer, wreck victims, left High Point hospital after a brief confinement. Mrs. Allen and Pete Short went over an embankment near Thomaville last Sunday. Short died of injuries. Allen had burns but recovered enough to return home. Mason rolled his car Sunday, bruised but improving and discharged from the hospital.
