R Bruce Etheridge director of the North Carolina department of conservation and development was rushed to Rex hospital where a sudden illness led to a successful operation this afternoon. The procedure was completed in under an hour.
Five men robbed the Wallingford Bank and Trust company using a machine gun and other weapons. They threatened five employees and two customers and took all bills in sight, with a preliminary loss estimate near $20,000.
Atlanta October 2 six companies of the Georgia National Guard were ordered mobilized early today by Adjutant General Lindley as part of a state defense measure. Local units were placed on alert pending further instructions from state authorities.
A band of five held up a Brooklyn Metropolitan Life Insurance branch today and escaped with four thousand dollars in bills. Police launched a manhunt as investigators gathered details on the robbery and the suspects.
Collector Charles H. Robertson reported North Carolina revenue collections for the first quarter of the current fiscal year totaling 71,712,096.56 dollars, up 359,889.02 dollars from the same period last year, with an overall quarter gain noted.
