Sheltered Workshop Helps Retarded Train For Jobs
Ten handicapped persons are at work at the High Point Sheltered Workshop on Centennial Street. The program by Guilford Rehabilitation Houses trains mentally challenged individuals for industry jobs and provides work for those not able to work in industry. It seeks community support, subcontracting for jobs, donations, and discarded items to stay operational, aiming to move participants off welfare. The workshop can house 40 people and collaborates with the state Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, receiving sixty dollars monthly for six months for those trained for industrial work.
