Duke Power finds two Lake Wylie fault zones pose no quake danger
Duke Power officials reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that two of four geologic fault zones at the Lake Wylie nuclear plant appear inactive for 56 to 150 million years. Zone 3, the largest, runs near a reactor foundation, but movements are deemed safe if ancient. Further study of the remaining zones could push final conclusions to January, but concrete foundations for the site are still planned to begin in April.
