In Columbia South Carolina on November 29 Sheriff T. Alex Heise reported Sam Thomson, an escaped North Carolina convict, is under tight guard in Richland county jail after a plan to escape was foiled. Locks in five of eight cells were sabotaged with soap to prevent the master lever from locking doors and the scheme unfolded Saturday night with Thomson's cell housing five men, three from another cell. Thomson had recently been captured with Worth Proc tor, another escaped North Carolina convict.
