Abductor Shoots Self After Abduction Pursuit
Wayne Franklin James, 30, allegedly abducted his stepdaughter from Goose Creek and fled across Berkeley and Charleston counties with two other children. After a high speed chase ending on U S 01 near a bridge, James shot himself fatally while police closed in. The 12-year-old was unharmed, and James died in a Columbia hospital. James had been charged with kidnapping. Police monitored the suspect's vehicle as the confrontation unfolded.
