Delayed reports describe Jop fighter planes striking Saipan base twice in one day. Gen Hansell warned Japan would retaliate. antiaircraft fire downed several Nipponese aircraft and casualties included one death amid coral and beachside chaos.
In Brownwood Texas on November 28 three men died and one was injured in two train crossing crashes. B A Loudermilti k a 55 year old rancher died after his car collided with a passenger train. Four hours later Eds Sheffield 74 and Will Jackson 47 both ranchers were killed when their automobile collided with a freight train. J H Mathews a passenger was injured.
Nevada judge affirms Doris Duke Cromwell's divorce from James H R Cromwell. Ruling says New Jersey decree was procured by fraud and imposition but Washoe court had jurisdiction. Doris and Cromwell separated in May 1940 over Cromwell's cruelty. Doris had been a Nevada domiciliary since July 23, 1943.
Thomasville 71 year old June Weir died at City Memorial hospital from burns suffered in the blaze at the old Julian residence yesterday morning. He lived at the Carter boarding house and is uncle to George Faenthey. Surviving relatives include nephews in Winston Salem and Iredell county. Funeral at J C Green and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday at five with interment in the city cemetery.
Evacuation of all American and British nationals in Kweichow province and unoccupied portions of Hunan was ordered as Japanese forces neared Kweiyang. Chinese high command reported advances as envelopment efforts continued toward Hochih and the provincial capital from Liuchow and Paoching.
Street car workers in Brussels walked out demanding the resignation of the Pierlot government. By noon only occasional streetcars operated as about one million residents faced limited foot transportation.

British Eighth Army drives most Germans from the Lamone River east bank to the Alboreto area five miles northeast of Faenza. Patrols cross the Lamone southwest of Faenza and contact Germans on high ground. Indian troops northwest of Modigliana capture Casale less than 10 miles south of Faenza.
Maj Robert K Morgan of Asheville recounts leading a B 29 raid on Tokyo in a letter transmitted to his wife Dorothy Morgan. He praises Dauntless Dotty and describes the 1944 mission, the crew members, and the personal motive of honoring his two week old daughter Sandra Lea. The letter notes the long flight, Fuji’s glow, and the bombing sequence.
American forces reached the Roer river on the floodplain and moved about a mile into German defenses along the waterway while Third Army infantry pressed within ten miles of Saarbrucken. Hodges units fought into Inden and Jungersdorf and near Lamesersdorf as the push continued.
