Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church Origins and Growth
In June 1929 Rev. Samuel T. Hensley led revival meetings in the old Senseback paint shop on English Street Extension, forming Fairmont Baptist Church with 58 charter members. The church built a tabernacle beside the shop, later renamed Hilliard Memorial in 1930, and grew under Rev. Hughey O. Miller from 1930 onward. The current plant at 2401 Edgewood Ave began July 4, 1931, with first service in May 1932, featuring a steam heating plant, kitchen, dining room, and a record of four ordained preachers from the church.
