Pecan Grading Station to Open in Raleigh Soon
The marketing division of the North Carolina State Department of Agriculture plans a Raleigh pecan grading station if demand from growers warrants it. Until then, growers may use nearby stations, notably Florence, South Carolina, to grade and market their crop. Prices for top grades run 40 to 45 cents a pound, with smaller seedlings at about 12 cents. Georgia growers hold over 1.5 million pounds for higher prices, boosting late-year trade.
