True bill not found against alleged Greene County lyncher

The land jay in Duplin county failed to find a true bill against Sam Stocks a farmer for taking part in the Greene county lynching of Joseph Black. Stocks was arrested after a governor’s detective report and held on seven hundred sixty thousand dollar bond awaiting grand jury action in Duplin county.

Steamer Relief After Fire Alarm Near New Shoreham

The Merchants' and Miners liner Fewhatan sent an alarm for a fire near New Shoreham Rhode Island. The New Shoreham coast guard crew launched to assist but were relieved after assessing the situation within sight of the harbor breakwater.

Danger signs have arrived and will be placed Monday or Tuesday at all curves and dangerous grades on the roads leading into High Point by representatives of the Industrial department of the Commercial chair.

Annapolis and West Point Rival in Prime New York Polo Grounds Showing

One of the citys largest athletic crowds gathered at the polo grounds for the Annapolis versus West Point football game. President Wilson could not attend but cabinet members and officials from both parties added prestige. Cadet battalions and midshipmen filled seats as Navy fans expected strong naval presence from seven battleships and 400 officers. Methodist Conference Adopts 200 Percent Budget Increase

Winston-Salem November 25 The North Carolina conference of the Methodist Protestant church spent the afternoon on committee work with no public meeting. Addresses by Rev F C Klein and Rev F T Benson preceded a lengthy budget debate and the conference voted to accept a about 200 percent increase in assessments. The conference then adjourned.

The market opened firm with a fresh buying wave lifting futures 10 to 28 points. January led gains around 84 points from yesterday's low, December closed at 20.85 and May at 21.29, with subsequent irregularities after the morning call and overall steady close.

Freight train side swipes engine drawing show train

A Southern freight train ran into the engine of the Sparks show train in Salisbury causing several hours delay. The show missed an early arrival in Concord and reached the city just before noon. No injuries were reported, but the locomotive and several freight cars were badly damaged.

State board of health records 144 deaths in High Point during the year ending June 1916, a rate of 11.6 per thousand.
