Blessing In Disguise: Greenville Rebounds After Donaldson Closure
Greenville, S C learned a major base closure can become a boon. After Donaldson Air Force Base shut in 1963 the city built a thriving industrial center with 392 buildings a golf course and miles of roads. Rental property sales power line deals and new tenants created 284 local jobs and a growing tax base. The mayor called the loss a blessing in disguise and urged avoiding further military installations.
