Marshall Miles Teach Lead-Directing Doubles in Bridge
In this column Oswald and James Jacoby discuss an old lead directing double for three no trump. Marshall Miles presents a simple form: when the partnership has an uncontested trump, use a double to prompt your partner to lead the first suit bid by dummy. The example shows East doubling to pressure a spade lead and maximize tricks, with West opening spades and East winning five spades. The article notes you must use lead directing doubles with discretion and seldom expect guaranteed success, but you should act rather than wait.
