Senate Elects Watch On Election Fraud Urges Justice Dept Action
The Senate Elections subcommittee asked the Justice Department to inform it of any evidence of federal voting violations from last Tuesday's elections. GOP leaders in 11 states were urged to recheck votes while Vice President Nixon's aides said he was not consulted. Atty Gen Rogers and Senator Green requested active cooperation and copies of any complaints or affidavits. A DOJ spokesman noted some complaints exist and that federal violations would be investigated. Some states reported no fraud, others received complaints. Nixon aides do not expect a recount to overturn the Democratic victory. Sweden reports an 85 percent voter turnout, a new record.
