Durham North Carolina AP report says the Baptist State Convention named an 11 person committee to recommend a successor to M A Huggins who has resigned as general secretary and treasurer.
Durham AP Dr Adiel J Moncrief pastor of First Baptist Church St Joseph Mo and SB C Christian Life Commission chair urges Christians to act on gospel in all life areas. He cites Moses in Egypt slave labor and warns not to seek candy of consolation over bread of integrity. Huggins to retire July 1 and Deane faces retirement after anti manifesto stance amid 128th NC Baptist Convention proceedings.
Washington AP reports Harold Stassen named four GOP possibles for 1960 but omitted Nixon from his list. Secretary of Labor Mitchell urged Nixon to run, calling Stassen's attack a vendetta while Nixon remained silent amid the intra party clash. More on page eight A.
President Arturo Frondizi crushed a late night coup bid led by Vice President Alejandro Gomez with military support and patience from oil workers who postponed a 96 hour nationwide strike. Frondizi ordered ministers to resolve a Mendoza oilfield disruption seen as Communist inspired and secured backing from the army navy and air force.
West Berliners felt relief after East German Premier Otto Grotewohl spoke at a crowded news briefing. He delivered lengthy remarks on peace unification and Berlin, hinting at talks about Soviet troops but offering no dramatic breakthrough. The tone suggested Moscow involvement in guiding East German positions.

Attorney General William P. Rogers said he ordered a grand jury inquiry into whether the recent Birmingham Alabama arrests of Negro ministers violated civil rights. The move follows reports of police actions and possible civil rights violations connected to the arrests.
In Fort Wayne Indiana seven children aged from 7 weeks to 11 years died when an explosion and blaze swept a southwest frame house. The parents and an eighth child survived after hurling the 4 year old Connie to safety through a window before fleeing the flames. Firefighters found the children in bed and believe oil furnace or lines fed the blaze. The Gammons family was hospitalized with burns and injuries.
An F101 Thunderjet from Shaw Air Force Base collided with a cargo type Air Force plane near Bethune South Carolina. The fighter pilot bailed out and landed near Camden. the cargo plane continued. The wreck sparked woods fires fought by local and forestry crews.
Burlette Jean Donaldson 26 of Pasadena aims to ride mule into South Viet Nam to translate the New Testament for tribes without written language. Sponsored by Wycliffe Bible Translators, she will spend 10 to 15 years establishing a church and writing native sound primers.
