Barbershop Keeps Shower Service At 75 Cents

GREENSBORO AP Seventy five cents buys a hot shower with towel and soap at King Cotton Burgess Barbershop run by W C York 54 and partner Robert Burgess 74. The shop, open 38 years, once charged 25 cents for haircut and shower. York plans to keep the service while hot water lasts and customers pay.

Pupils Told Drop Your Weapons at Raleigh School

In a Raleigh junior high, Principal George L. Foxwell gathered eighth and ninth graders in the gym and ordered students to drop any weapons or drugs. Eleven knives, including three nine inch blades, plus three bags of marijuana and three marijuana cigarettes were found on the floor. Foxwell defended the search as necessary to prevent harm, despite parental concerns about rights.

Preyer cites Carter obstacles facing business leaders in High Point

Burglaries and Vandalism Reported by High Point Police

Police investigated four burglaries and several acts of malicious damage Friday. Items stolen include currency and clothes from Rivettco Inc on English Road, and a glass door watch from a Greer Avenue home. Other thefts involved batteries, CB radios, a purse, a cash register sum, clothing from K-Mart, and a car battery, with two arrests for larceny.

Cloyd Named Director of Urban Ministry in High Point

Sam Cloyd former counsellor at the Family Service Bureau is appointed director of the Urban Ministry in High Point succeeding Dr. Mark Sills. He will lead a three fulltime staff with volunteers at 463 S. Main St. The ministry runs 24 hour counselling and the Pitcher and Cup aid service.
